Size and Layout
The Varmilo Minilo75 HE is a 75% keyboard measuring 325 x 143 x 37 mm and weighing 0.85 kg. While 60% keyboards may be great at gaming, the 75% layout of the Minilo75 HE provides additional buttons essential for productivity tasks, making it more versatile for coding, writing, and research, which is very important to my use case. Typing on this keyboard is comfortable, although those accustomed to low-profile keyboards, such as myself, might find extended work sessions slightly tiring.
Build Quality
Made from plastic reinforced by a metal inlay frame, the Minilo75 HE has a very impressive sturdiness. The aluminum plate further improve its rigidity. It does not have any flex or creaks under pressure or when bending the keyboard. I like heavier keyboards when I know I won't be moving it around, however, its weight can be a minor drawback for portability, particularly in LAN settings or frequent travel.
Switches
The Minilo75 HE is available with four switch options:
- Magnetic White
- Huano Mag Marble
- Gateron Magnetic Jade Pro
- TTC King of Magnetic RGB
All these switches use HE technology, having an impressive 0.01 mm accuracy, rapid trigger response, dynamic keystroke adjustments, and SOCD capability. I have the Magnetic White switches and they offer an exceptionally smooth typing experience. They have a good balance between being lightweight yet providing good feedback, suitable for both gaming and regular work.
Keycaps
The Minilo75 HE has PBT keycaps with a Cherry profile. These are not shine-through. They do not show much fingerprints, dirt, or oils compared to many alternatives.
Design
It has a minimalistic design and is available in two distinct colorways: Black (black and gray) and Mendozae (pink and beige). The RGB lighting is bright by itself but subtly integrated, positioned beneath the keycaps and slightly obscured by the frame.
Conclusion
Priced at $140.99, the Varmilo Minilo75 HE combines excellent build quality, innovative magnetic switches, premium keycaps, and an efficient layout into a cohesive package. Its compact form factor and robust construction make it suitable for both gaming and productivity-focused tasks.
