Shape & Size
The WLmouse Beast X Pro is a symmetrical gaming mouse offered in two "Pro" variants, each catering to different hand sizes and grip styles. The standard Beast X Pro measures 122 x 62 x 37 mm, while the Beast X Mini Pro is slightly smaller at 116 x 58 x 35 mm. An earlier released variant, the Beast X Max, retains the same technical specifications but is larger at 126 x 65 x 39 mm and lacks the "Pro" branding.
Their design is right-handed with a centered hump placement, moderately outward front flare, and inward side curvature, mirroring the popular shape and size of the ULX, making it a more budget-friendly and in-stock alternative with improvements to technical specifications in certain areas.
Grip-wise, the Beast X Max suits large and medium-sized hands best with palm and claw grips. The Beast X Pro is ideal for large-handed users favoring claw or fingertip grips, medium-sized users preferring palm or claw grips, and small-handed users opting for palm grip. The Beast X Mini Pro excels as a fingertip mouse across all hand sizes and comfortably accommodates claw grips for smaller hands.
Coating & Grip-tape
The Beast X Pro features an impressive coating that provides good grip. The magnesium alloy shell contributes to a notably cool feel, which personally improves my gaming experience but might not appeal to all users.
Pro variants offer a choice between solid sides or sides with holes. I favor the solid sides for their comfort, though those seeking a lighter mouse might prefer the side-slits version. Additionally, some color variants of the Beast X Max now feature solid sides.
The package includes a grip-tape set with patches in various shapes and sizes, plus pre-cut tapes for the main buttons and sides. These tapes greatly enhance grip, though I find the standard coating sufficiently grippy, making the tapes optional for my usage.
Build Quality
Made from magnesium alloy, the Beast X Pro has exceptional build quality. There's no flex or creaking when pressure is applied, and no rattling when shaking the mouse.
Weight & Feet/Skates
The Beast X Pro weighs just 39 grams, the Mini Pro version 34 grams, and the Beast X Max is slightly heavier at 42 grams. Each variant is very lightweight and easy to maneuver. The weight distribution is evenly balanced.
The mouse is equipped with four white dot skates pre-installed and includes additional skates in the package: one set of two large black PTFE skates and another set of four medium-sized black PTFE skates. All provided skates glide smoothly and further improve after a brief break-in period. For users prioritizing speed, the smaller dot skates outperform the larger skates, which are more controlled.
Buttons & Scroll Wheel
Main buttons on the Beast X Pro come with a choice between Omron Optical switches or mechanical TTC Nihil Transparent Black Dot switches. My unit features Omron Optical switches, which are impressively tactile for optical switches, though mechanical switches generally offer even greater tactility. Users valuing maximum tactile feedback will likely prefer the TTC Nihil switches.
The main buttons exhibit no noticeable pre- or post-travel. Side buttons use mechanical Omron Blue Dot switches, delivering pronounced tactility and feedback without any detectable travel issues or side wobble.
The scroll wheel employs a TTC Silver encoder, offering moderate tactility and smooth scrolling. Pressing the wheel demands a medium actuation force, making it well-suited for quick and repeated clicking actions.
Sensor & Performance
All variants—the Beast X Pro, Beast X Mini Pro, and Beast X Max—feature the high-performing PixArt PAW3950 HS sensor. Performance across these mice feels flawless, with precise tracking and responsiveness. Each variant is capable of achieving an 8K polling rate through the included dongle, negating the need for additional hardware purchases to unlock their maximum performance potential.
Conclusion
Priced at $145, the WLmouse Beast X Pro sits firmly in the premium market. Despite its cost, the mouse justifies its price through exceptional build quality, high-level performance, and versatility in sizes and customization options. The inclusion of grip tapes and additional skates adds further value, while the ultra-lightweight build makes the mouse very comfortable to use.
Its shape, widely appreciated by the gaming community for years, combined with the variety in sizes, makes the Beast X lineup suitable for virtually any hand size or grip style. If you have the money and seek a high-performing, customizable, and robust gaming mouse, the WLmouse Beast X Pro is definitely worth the investment.
